Review for "Every Last Kiss"

Every Last Kiss (The Bloodstone Saga, #1)Every Last Kiss by Courtney Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Egypt holds so much history, magic and taste of the exotic within its name. In my search for more historical fiction, I came upon this treasure by Courtney Cole. Macy is an ordinary girl, or so she thinks, until she discovers a long lost stone that ties her to the past quite literally. Within the first few chapters you are pulled into the ancient past. And not just to ancient Egypt, but during the final days of the reign of Cleopatra. It is an irresistible adventure that quickly sucks you under. What I loved most about this novel was how the author threw a teen-aged heroine into an middle aged woman's body. And somehow, Cole manages to weave Macy's story line and personality into her past incarnation as Cleopatra's handmaiden. I only wish we could have spent more time in Egypt. And I look forward to reading the sequel I bought immediately upon finishing the first. A story about true love surpassing the constraints of time, Every Last Kiss is a book you won't wanna miss.

"The Three Graces" Review & Giveaway Blog Tour

4Word Press and Gliterary Girl Book Tours wants to introduce you to author Michele Wolfe and her debut novel,

THE THREE GRACES!
Release Tour (1)
My Review
****

A delicately painted portrait of both mythos and ethos, deftly drawn by debut author, Michele Wolfe. Rather than stumbling through a wide range of characters and perspectives, Wolfe manages to not only convey something meaningful and poignant, but to breathe life into her work.
Ancient patrons of the arts aside, the college atmosphere and complex home lives and loves of each girl are believable. Wolfe has an obvious artistic eye in the way she offers constant Polaroid snapshots of fashion and scenery, in a style reminiscent of Derrolyn Anderson. I am always drawn to tales featuring art. I knew I was reading a novel based on a statue. What I wasn't prepared for, was this tribute to every aspect of art and its devoted practitioners.
Occasionally I felt the mother figures to be a bit harsh in their desire for their daughters' success. All three seemed hell-bent on crushing their children's dreams. Being a former art major myself, while my own mother could be critical, she was constantly helpful and encouraging. I would have liked to see at least one parental figure/situation pan out for the best. Possibly because my parents grew to become my friends and wanted to see that joy given to the girls, too. However, they did provide ample adversity in these struggling artists' journey to discovery and adulthood. I particularly enjoyed Isabel's artistic mad fits and find myself itching to grab my charcoal and paper because of her.
And we mustn't forget about the Three Graces themselves. While I am still a bit unclear on their relationship with the three girls (were they muses, patrons?), I enjoyed their history. As well as the fact they act so deliciously not human. This made their snippet scenes stand apart in an ethereal sort of way.
I gave four stars to newcomer Michele Wolfe for a strong voice and most especially, her understanding of the synchronicity of art, music and literature.

About THE THREE GRACES

Copy of TheThreeGraces.v1
College juniors Jessie, Isabel and Sara are linked in an unlikely friendship by visits to hidden places only they can see. Together on a trip to Hearst Castle in California an earth-shaking encounter with a stunning statue in the gardens binds them to the spirits of the Three Graces; Brilliance, Joy and Bloom.
Under the weight of school and family problems, Sara Jessie and Isabel grow to be fast friends as they struggle with who they are and what will become of them. Until the fateful trip where they are gifted three magical pendants. Through these gifts the girls must find a way to unlock a centuries old curse and free the graces from their stone grave.
Will Brilliance, Joy and Bloom find freedom through the girls or will they forever be entombed in the statue of The Three Graces?
The Three Graces is a deep and beautiful story of discovery, of admitting to truths that have been buried, and of letting go of a past that hinders the present.

About MICHELE WOLFE
Growing up between the Rocky Mountains and the city of Denver in Colorado, gave me a life-long love of both. I suspect my experiences were similar to others my age then; summers in one-piece bathing suits; bicycle riding without a helmet; vacationing in the family station wagon; skiing down the local mountains. I was lucky enough to be the spoiled youngest of three girls and supported by friends and a loving extended family.
Copy of Michele Headshot 2I loved drama, singing, gymnastics and ice skating. And I was never without a good book, no matter where I went. Soon after finishing college and becoming a teacher, I decided I wanted to explore the world. I took long road trips, spent time at Martha’s Vineyard, and fell in love with the ocean and California, which eventually became my home.
Four years after moving to Los Angeles, I discovered two things that changed my life. My husband was the first. We fell in love hard and fast. Twenty-two years later, we are fully, after a lot of hard work, co-dependent and co-evolved, and very happy about both. The second discovery was a passion for teaching adults English as a Second Language in a poor immigrant community in East L.A. I’m still there, too.
My husband and I have two handsome boys, Caleb Justus and Joshua William. They are our pride and joy. Caleb is in the Army and Joshua is finishing high school. And I should mention our ‘girl’ Sophie, who loves running to and fro on our walks, dancing in the kitchen, her tail-wagging in joy.
Being a busy teacher, mother and wife made finding time to write a challenge. When I started my first novel, there was no space in our little home to write except at the kitchen table. I diligently carved out time on the weekends and eventually took my laptop to coffee shops and writers’ groups to finish it.
When writing, I let the story and characters come to me in their own time, in their own way. I am inspired by music and art, which often influence a scene or a conversation in my stories. I hope my writing inspires others and makes people think and feel. And of course be entertained.
I am working on my next novel, also about a work of art, this time a painting at the Museum of Modern Art in Rome. I am currently submitting two short stories as well to literary magazines.

"The waves are growing in strength and so I call upon the wind to push harder and faster. I lift up my arms and am gathered up into the core of a high ocean wave, a high wall of pure water and a force of nature within itself. Color and light surrounds and fills me as I keep my arms outstretched towards them and welcome the pain. Light shines from every pore of my skin, shimmering and changing, inconstant as dawn until dusk."

Favorite Character Moments by Author Sherry Soule - #StarlightSaga

Favorite Character Moments by Author Sherry Soule - #StarlightSaga
Today author, Sherry Soule has some exciting news to share with us! She will be publishing a brand new upper YA / Sci-Fi romance series: the “Starlight Saga” with scorching-hot character chemistry, exciting suspense, and epic romance on June 26, 2014.
To help promote this interstellar love story, “LOST IN STARLIGHT,” Sherry is doing this guest post to share the news with fellow book lovers.

VOLUME ONE: Starlight Saga
High school reporter Sloane Masterson knows she has one helluva story when she witnesses hottie Hayden Lancaster bending forks with his mind.
Like any good journalist, Sloane sets out to uncover the truth, even if it includes a little stalking. When the superhuman feats start to pile up and the undeniable heat rises between them, Hayden has no choice but to reveal his secret: he’s an alien hybrid.
They’re as different as night and day—she’s a curvy, purple-haired, horror junkie and he’s a smoking hot, antisocial, brainiac—yet the intense fascination between them refuses to go away. Even at Hayden’s insistence that dating each other is “off limits” and crazy dangerous, their fiery attraction threatens to go supernova.
Now Sloane’s dealing with creepy government agents, ├╝ber snobby extraterrestrials, and a psycho alien ex-girlfriend out for revenge. After a crash course on the rules of interstellar dating, Sloane must decide if their star-crossed romance is worth risking her own life....
Sherry has compiled a few of her favorite moments from the first book in the Starlight Saga, “LOST IN STARLIGHT.” Enjoy the excerpts!
Excerpt 1:
I’m suddenly aware that Hayden Lancaster’s blatantly staring at me. Hard to miss. His messenger bag is in one hand, and drumsticks stick out of his back pocket. I lift my hand in a hesitant little wave. He doesn’t return my gesture, just continues gazing at me through those thick lashes that frame his unique eyes. My head goes all woozy. Even my limbs feel jittery. Frustration and confusion are warring inside me for having any feelings for someone like him.
And what’s with the stare?
A wave of nervousness hits hard. Is there toilet paper hanging out of my jeans? Food stuck in my teeth? Or have Frankenstein bolts suddenly sprouted from my neck?
Being on Hayden’s radar is a little unsettling. I admit there’s something about Mr. Puppy Hero’s rare smiles, lopsided with an edge, that draw girls to him like insects buzzing a bug zapper. For better or worse, no one can resist Hayden Lancaster. Not even me….
Excerpt 2:
“Do you believe in destiny, Hayden?” I ask.
“I do now…but before I met you, I didn’t think there was any such thing as love-at-first-sight, or one person for everyone, or a soulmate. But when I’m near you, I think...I might be wrong.” His expression softens, and he runs his thumb across my bottom lip, causing the blood to sear in my veins. “You know what I believe now? That the universe has no conscious will, only inevitabilities, and it was inevitable that we should be together. It was fated—written in the stars—that no matter what, I’ll never stop trying to make you happy or wanting to keep you safe. I am lost in you, with no desire to escape.”
My breath snags in my throat. Even my knees wobble. How is it that he can say the most romantic things?

Crave by Melissa Darnell

Crave (The Clann, #1)Crave by Melissa Darnell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Five star reviews are perhaps rarer for me to click out than they once were. That comes from a prolonged exposure to the best and worst of recent fiction, both Indie and Traditional. On a first glance, besides the gorgeous cover art, Crave seems like just another teen vampire romance. With a nod to the literary community, I feel I have read almost every twist and turn of this genre possible. Melissa Darnell proved me wrong. Crave doesn't begin like you expect it to, with quirky heroine, Savannah the target of bullying and classic case of the misfits. And much like the "Misfits," she undergoes one radical, shocking change.
This modern Shakespeare drama is told from both Savannah and Tristan's perspectives. I found it refreshing, seeing how the actions of one teen were constantly misinterpreted by the other. While tiresome at times, it reminded me all to well of the feelings I felt not that long ago. And perhaps that is where Melissa Darnell best casts her magic. Not only are you pulled in by such fleshy characters, but you share their pitfalls and highs. For a precious few hours you do what you paid your hourly wages for, an escape into the lives of very different yet hopelessly familiar highschoolers and their parents.
The East Texas setting constantly offers nostalgia for me, and the supernatural elements flow naturally into the narrative. The dialogue is fresh and peppered with pieces of Friday Night Lights drama with a refined version of Twilight. Savannah doesn't rush around desperate to break the rules set in place to protect her family. Darnell successfully shows how guilt and love and raging hormones can couple with the paranormal.
Don't miss this read! If you're anything like me, you'll be rushing to purchase the rest of the series and more.
