Author Interview with Lynette Endicott

Fantabulous Author Interview
with Lynette Endicott

(because that’s what she is…fabuloso)

Jenn:  Describe yourself using five unrelated adjectives ;)

Lyn:  Energetic, empathetic, observant, curious, expressive

Jenn:  Of all the characters you’ve written, which do you most connect with and why?

Lyn:  I love all my characters, but I feel the strongest connection to Eliza, the heroine of Pioneer Instinct who immigrated from Ireland to the American West, perhaps because she is based on an ancestress. I have a photograph, newspaper articles, family stories, even some of her needlework, so she is very real. Her story had many heartbreaks, so I empathized with her difficult life journey and so especially wanted her to find love and happiness.

Jenn:  Kay, now that we have the hard questions out of the way… Do you have any fun routine before you dive into your latest manuscript?

Lyn:  I click on the computer on my way from my bedroom to the kitchen, my cats and dog trailing me. While the computer is booting up I start my real tea -- whole leaf, fragrant and tasty. There is a little ritual to making real tea -- heating the water, warming the cup, steeping the tea, straining out the pieces, sipping the wonderful result along with an almond blossom or cookie or my homemade biscotti. I like Earl Grey with bergamot, blended with Earl Grey Crème' which has a little vanilla. The routine is a little slow while the water is heating, so the animals -- a dog, two cats and a bird -- get their breakfast during that time. Then I get mine. I open my WIP and sip as I get back into my story.

Jenn:  That sounds lovely! I need to try your routine next time. On with the show... What is the most shocking scene/novel you ever read and why?

Lyn:  The first Hogwarts death, the realization in Hunger Games that characters I loved would have to die, several scenes in The Help -- I find injustice shocking any time I confront it, in life or in fiction.

Jenn:  Very true, which brings me to my next question. You write romances, but do you ever feel yourself losing inspiration? If so where do you do to find it?

Lyn:  I watch some of my old favorite romantic movies, re-read favorite books, or snuggle up with my husband of 40 years. A walk in the garden or along the coast or other beautiful place in nature also puts me in the right frame of mind to write.

Jenn:   Do you prefer tragic romances like “Romeo & Juliet,” or comedies like “Much Ado About Nothing?”

Lyn:   Romance that develops in the middle of real life, with all its difficulties, humor, and more, appeals to me most. If I laugh and cry in the same book it may be exactly the right balance.

Jenn:   Our world can be a pretty tough place and true love can often seem like a myth rather than reality. Do you have a message you try to impart to your readers? If so, care to share?

Lyn:  Those awful moments in life when your heart stops and you can't imagine how you will go on, those moments when you must go forward even though you can't imagine how -- it is in those moments that we learn who we really are and when new things can unfold for us.

Jenn:   Three more to go! Can you sum up your new novel, “Out of Agony” in ten words or less?

Lyn:   When Brian lost his little girl his world fell apart

Jenn:   I see this is the fourth book in your “Starting Over” series. What has been the most challenging part of your journey with these characters?

Lyn:   I had to grow up from the first life change -- the loss of a job -- to realize that life can bring even greater sorrow. What is more sorrowful than the loss of a child?

Jenn:   Wow, I can't even imagine... This next question is geared more towards your fellow authors, but how do you find the gumption to keep on going? Any wisdom you can share based on your experiences as an authoress?

Lyn:   Keep writing. The story is there inside you and if you show up to the keyboard and give it a chance, it will begin to write itself.

Jenn:   Thank you so much for your time, Lynette! I hope you continue to find success through this tour. I know I, for one, will be picking up this series as soon as possible!

Lyn:   Thank you for inviting me over. It's been fun to visit your blog and I will do it often to see what your other guests have to say.

If you enjoyed meeting Lynette as much as I did, you should hop on over and visit her website and discover her books! I know I will. :)

ABOUT Lynette Endicott

Lynette EndicottLynette Endicott grew up in Illinois, met her husband in Western Nebraska, lived 25 years in Kansas where their daughter was born, and has been in Fresno, California since 2000. She has a son-in-law (who lives with her daughter nearby), and has rescued a dog, a bird and three cats. She and Ollie, her terrier mix, volunteer as a team at the local library, where children read to the dog. At a youth camp when she was 14 the editor and teacher of a writing class challenged her to submit something to his youth magazine. She did and it was the first of 10 articles and stories accepted by the publication over the next few years. Nothing like front end success to keep her writing! Lynette enjoys reading contemporary romance and speculative fiction and writes both. Her debut book, Starting Over Book One: More Than A Job, and two more books in that series, The Return of Joy and Finding Her Voice are available now. The first three of the Time After Time Saga with Tami Dee are available now, including Animal Instinct, Survival Instinct and Pioneer Instinct. The fourth in the series of six, Protective Instinct, will release in August 2014. Because she didn't have pets until after her 50th birthday the animals she enjoys find their way into all her books. Usually you will also find a character with a disability as part of the day-to-day fabric of the story. In More Than A Job, Paige works in services to people with disabilities until she loses her job and starts over. In The Return of Joy, Atlas, the yellow lab, becomes a Therapy Dog. In the Time After Time series animal helpers assist the hero and heroine in all six of the books in the series.

"The nurse took your vitals. Everything looks good -- blood pressure, temp. On a scale of one to ten how is your pain?"
Sara shot Jessie a look. "Seven, I guess."
That was high, but Sara's hesitation made her wonder if it wasn't even higher. "Sara, don't make it sound better for me. You need to keep ahead of the pain."
Sara nodded a little sheepishly. "Okay, eight, or maybe eight and a half. Not as bad as sometimes."
This stunned Jessie. She'd never asked Sara if her cancer hurt. "That's quite a bit of pain," she noted quietly.
Sara turned tear-filled eyes to her. "Don't tell mom or dad, okay? They already worry too much."
"You can tell them anything you want them to know. It's up to you, sweetie. Not me."
"Okay," Dr. Booker interrupted, "we will up the pain meds, too. Sara, don't wait until you hurt to take them. Take them like you do your other pills -- every day. The pain is hard to calm down if you wait too long. Those pain receptors start firing on all cylinders and it's hard to stop them.""
"I know." While Sara and the doctor continued to discuss her condition, reality sunk in. Sara really could die from this cancer. She squeezed her eyes shut and begged God to intervene.
When Dr. Booker finished, she took one of Sara's elbows and helped her down. They went down the hall toward the treatment room.
"Hey, Sara." A young man in scrubs greeted her with a quick hug. "Welcome back. Pick a chair while I get a blanket from the warmer for you."
They were early, so Sara had her choice of chairs and picked one with a view of the gardens.
The young man fussed over Sara, tucking the blanket around her as he chatted.
"Seth, this is my Aunt Jessie. I don't think you were here the last time she came with me. She moved back to Santa Fe, though, so she is going to come with me for all my treatments for awhile."
The young man turned his warm smile on her. "Sara's talked about you coming. I know she is really glad to have you here."
"Can I get you anything to drink? Juice or water?"
Sara shook her head. "I'm fine for now. I want my book, though."
Jessie reached into Sara's treatment backpack and pulled out her tablet computer and handed it to her. They settled in for a long day as Seth set up the liquids that would flow into her tiny body over the coming hours.

Jessie blinked back her tears. Life was so unfair. Why did Sara have to be one of the unlucky ones, one who had to fight for her life like this?

Review for "Scorch" by Kaitlyn Davis

Scorch (Midnight Fire, #4)Scorch by Kaitlyn Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I've been stalking Kaitlyn Davis ever since I first discovered her Midnight Fire series and have been super excited to watch her success! And even more excited to read this final installment, where she made all my dreams for this series come true! The series began somewhat slowly and predictably, with the chick falling for the sexy vamp. But that is where similarities between the norm and Midnight Fire end. Davis takes the concept of the genre and turns it on its head. I loved how powerful and scary Kira becomes and again, how Luke is her anchor and maybe-more-than-a-best-friend. Tristan's character probably has the most growth and best story line of all the main characters this go-round. I love Kaitlyn Davis and her epic story because she isn't afraid to let her characters live and breathe. It's been a wonderful, topsy-turvy ride and I'm only sad to see it end.
